Morocco is a North African country located just a short ferry ride from Spain. The country has a rich culture and history and its landscape is varied and beautiful. The best time to visit Morocco depends on your interests and what you want to see and do while you’re there.
The best time to visit Morocco
The best time to visit Morocco is during the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) when the weather is mild and there are fewer crowds. However if you’re looking to experience a traditional Moroccan festival you may want to plan your trip around one of these celebrations:
Mouloud: A public holiday commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-awwal (the third month of the Islamic calendar) and typically falls in February or March.
Eid al-Fitr: A three-day religious holiday marking the end of Ramadan (the Islamic month of fasting). It is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal (the tenth month of the Islamic calendar) and typically falls in June or July.
Eid al-Adha: A four-day religious holiday that commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son. It is celebrated on the 10th day.
Although temperatures in the Sahara can be very hot in August stay away from this region. However temperatures could be much cooler along the Atlantic coast around Casablanca in July and August. In winter rain is common in locations such as around Casablanca. As you travel southward the climate becomes more desert-like.
Some people avoid traveling during Ramadan as this might cause some businesses to close. But in the more tourist-heavy areas most establishments remain open throughout the evening hours. For many non-Muslim visitors witnessing Ramadan in person feels like an honor.
